Why don't baseball managers dress up for games?

It seems as though in every other sport, captain/ managers always dress up, at least a little bit. Yet in baseball managers continue to dress like a player or dress extremely casual. why the difference in baseball? Why don't baseball managers dress up for games?
A couple of managers actually did "dress up" - most notably Connie Mack, who managed and owned the Philadelphia Athletics for 50+ years.

But it is tradition that keeps managers in uniform - keep in mind that when baseball first started many of the managers were playing managers so it was natural for them to wear the uniform.
Uh, not the best answer. The answer is the rules require those on the roster who go onto the field to be in uniform.

I think it's because suits looks wierd in a dugout.

Plus, suits are expensive. Baseball is played mostly in dirt, so they dont want to get em dirty. Why don't baseball managers dress up for games?
simply .

tradition.
They would look funny walking/jogging to the picther's mound in a suit. :-)
league rules that they wear team attire.
Dress up - you mean like Bill Belichick?!

In the early days of baseball player/managers were the norm. I suppose that the tradition of the manager wearing a uniform came from that and has just stuck. I have never seen a manager in the dugout in anything but a uniform.

Four is right - from the MLB rule book - "1.11

(a) (1) All players on a team shall wear uniforms identical in color, trim and style, and all players uniforms shall include minimal six-inch numbers on their backs.

(2) Any part of an undershirt exposed to view shall be of a uniform solid color for all players on a team. Any player other than the pitcher may have numbers,

letters, insignia attached to the sleeve of the undershirt.

(3) No player whose uniform does not conform to that of his teammates shall be permitted to participate in a game."

Also - I suppose in other sports the managers would look silly - a football coach in pads? A hockey coach in skates? Perhaps a basketball coach in a jersey and sneaks?
baseball rules state that if you are in the dugout you have to have something as your outerwear with your teams emblem on it, to distinguish you as an official memmer of that team

to date no major league team has put out a three piece suit with their emblem on it
baseball likes to stick to its roots and keep the ties to the olden days. so they have the managers wear full uniform, but like someone said it would seem a bit funny to see a manager going to the mound in a 3 peice suite.

I personaly like how the managers are in uniform and even have a offical number it just adds to baseballs this is a classic sport and we like to keep it nice and simple
It's tradition for a manager to wear a uniforom , that's why.
